Mini: What cars are on offer, and what’s on the way?

From hatchbacks to SUVs, there’s plenty happening at Mini in the next few years

Mini continues to be a hugely popular car brand in the UK, with its cars’ combination of style and fun really appealing to buyers.

Certain models also continue to be produced here in Britain, while there are a number of electrified Minis on offer these days too. Let’s take a look at what the Mini range entails in 2022, and also some of the models you can expect in the coming years.

Mini 3-Door Hatch

Mini’s most iconic model remains an absolute smash hit, and continues to be one of the UK’s most popular new cars. Famed for its style and personalisation, it’s also huge fun to drive and gets a particularly upmarket interior – especially by supermini standards.

There’s a huge choice of engines on offer too, from the more affordable Cooper models right the way through to the powerful John Cooper Works.

Mini 5-Door Hatch

Introduced to appeal to those that had outgrown the 3-Door Hatch, this version gains a set of rear doors, while it is slightly longer in length – helping to give passengers more space in the back and a more usefully-sized boot.

Like the regular Hatch, though, it’s huge fun to drive, while even with an extra set of doors, it still looks the part as well.

Mini Electric

Lots of Minis are used around towns and cities, and it made a lot of sense for an EV to be introduced. Aptly named the Electric, it’s terrific around town where its relatively small 145-mile range should still prove plentiful for most.

It’s based on the 3-Door Hatch and is produced in the UK, and is increasingly becoming a popular option in the Mini line-up.

Mini Convertible

The best-selling drop-top in the UK is Mini’s Convertible, and if you love the style of the Hatch but want even more fun, this model is most certainly worth a look.

Like the Hatch, it’s available with a wide choice of engines and trim levels, while there’s plentiful personalisation on offer too – including being able to choose from various patterns for the electric canvas roof.

Mini Clubman

One of the more oddball models in Mini’s range, the Clubman is a funky hatchback that’s larger than the regular Hatch models and is a good choice for families for that reason.

Its stand-out feature is its twin-opening rear doors, which reveal a usefully-sized 380 litres of space. A wide range of engines is on offer, with the 302bhp John Cooper Works model serving as Mini’s most powerful road-going car to date.

Mini Countryman

Currently the only SUV in Mini’s line-up, the Countryman has proven an enormously popular addition to the brand’s range. Easily the most practical Mini on offer, it features plenty of rear seat space and a big boot, making it a hit with families.

Alongside a range of petrol engines, Mini now offers a plug-in hybrid model, which offers around 30 electric miles to a charge.

Incoming – Mini Aceman

One of the most exciting models in the pipeline at Mini is the new Aceman crossover – not to be confused with the old Paceman.

Recently shown in concept form, it previews a new compact SUV in 2024, which will be sold purely as an EV. Expect it to sit beneath the Countryman in the Mini pecking order.

Incoming – New Mini 3 Door Hatch

Mini’s current 3-Door Hatch has been around since 2014 and though it’s been updated on several occasions, a new version is overdue.

Expected to arrive in 2023, the new Hatch is expected to become more ‘Mini’ in terms of dimensions, yet offer more space inside. Petrol versions are set to launch still, along with a new electric model that’s likely to get an overhauled powertrain. It will boast an all-new infotainment system that reinvents the central circular display.
