Junior Aston Martin DB5 made to celebrate upcoming No Time to Die James Bond film

Downsized model allows young 007 fans to get behind the wheel

A special-edition junior version of the Aston Martin DB5 has been made to celebrate the launch of the upcoming James Bond film No Time To Die.

Made in collaboration between The Little Car Company –which specialises in replicating models on a junior scale – Aston Martin and James Bond producers EON Productions, the limited-edition downsized car incorporates a whole host of cues that pay homage to the real model.

These include Smiths instruments and the iconic Silver Birch paint, while the whole car has has been kitted out with a range of gadgets as seen on the DB5s that have starred in 007 films such as Skyfall and Goldfinger.

Though produced on a junior scale, special effects supervisor Chris Corbould OBE, who has worked on 15 James Bond films, helped The Little Car Company to install elements such as a smoke screen that can be deployed through the rear exhaust. A supplied gas tank is said to provide an hour of ‘safe smoke’. Other elements include headlights that drop to reveal a set of twin Gatling guns, complete with imitation barrel blasts and flashes.

The gadgets are controlled by a hidden switch panel in the passenger door, while an original Aston Martin DB5 was 3D-scanned for reference to make sure the car can be as close to the real deal as possible.

Though unlike the original DB5, the Junior model is a convertible rather than a coupe, which is done to allow easier access and for adults and children to be able to sit alongside each other in the car. It is also powered by electricity, which is said to allow for an impressive range of up to 80 miles.

Just 125 No Time to Die editions will be made, with a fixed price of £90,000, plus local taxes. Though the models can’t be used on the road, owners will gain automatic entry into the Aston Martin Owners Club.

Ben Hedley, CEO of The Little Car Company, said: “Regarded as the most famous car in cinematic history, the gadget-laden Aston Martin DB5 awed audiences around the world over fifty years ago.

“Now, that story continues. As part of an exclusive partnership with EON Productions and Aston Martin, we have had the opportunity to create something truly unique for James Bond fans and collectors. We can’t wait to see the adventures these cars take with their owners.”

No Time To Die hits UK cinemas on September 30.
