Citroen’s electrified range: what’s available?

We take a look at what the firm has on offer in terms of battery-assisted models.

Citroen, like so many other manufacturers, has a real focus on electrification at the moment. That means it’s currently in the process of adding electrified powertrains to a multitude of its models, with electric and plug-in hybrid versions coming out thick and fast. 

Ami

The dinky little Ami has whipped up quite the storm for such a small car. Originally the Ami wasn’t destined for the UK but after overwhelming demand and support, it’s finally due to arrive here. 

Though its range of 60 miles and 30mph top speed means the Ami won’t be a great fit for long-distance drivers, it’ll no doubt prove popular for people who want a hassle-free way of getting around the city or urban areas. 

e-C4

Citroen’s new e-C4 is an electric car that punches well above its weight. It’ll travel for up to 217 miles between charges while an 80 per cent charge could be conducted in as little as 30 minutes thanks to rapid charging. 

But one of the e-C4’s real plus-points is that it’s no less practical than the standard C4, so you still get a decent size boot and a well-made cabin alongside that zero-emissions powertrain. 

C5 Aircross Hybrid 

The C5 Aircross is the largest SUV in Citroen’s range, bringing a whole heap of practicality as well as that sense of style that has been applied across the firm’s entire line-up of cars. Plus, it’s now available as an efficient plug-in hybrid. 

It combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and 13.2kWh battery. It means that despite a respectable 0-60mph time of 8.5 seconds, it’ll still manage up to 40 miles on electric-only power. 

e-Berlingo 

Practicality has always been the Berlingo’s strong suit and now it’s able to add efficiency into the mix with this new electric version. Called the e-Berlingo, it’s a fully electric model which still has a real focus on interior spaciousness and outright usability. 

Available in medium and XL lengths, the e-Berlingo has a range of up to 174 miles and the option of up to seven seats. So confident in the electric powertrain is Citroen that it has taken petrol and diesel-powered versions off sale, in fact. 

e-Spacetourer 

If you’re after even more space but still want electric power, then the e-Spacetourer will hit the nail on the head. It’s capable of seating up to nine people, though the second and third rows can be removed to provide a huge amount of luggage space if required. 

With a 100kW electric motor linked to a 50kWh battery, the e-Spacetourer will return up to 143 miles between charges. 

C5 X Plug-in hybrid

The C5 X arrives this year as Citroen’s new flagship model, promising the very best in terms of technology and driver involvement. It has been designed to give off the look of an estate car but with the practicality of an SUV, while a new plug-in hybrid setup throws added efficiency into that mix too. 

The plug-in hybrid combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and battery which, Citroen says, should return up to 33 miles of electric-only driving between charges. 

Electric van range

Citroen also has a wide variety of commercial vehicles which use electric power. You’ve got the e-Berlingo, e-Dispatch and larger e-Relay which are all available with battery power and offer ranges of 170, 211 and 139 miles respectively. 

They’re a great option for those drivers who often need to use their vans in urban areas as they don’t qualify for emissions zone charges and have neat, zippy acceleration which helps for darting in and out of traffic easily.
