This year has been a very important one for BMW, as it’s seen the firm mark 50 years of its hugely important ‘M’ division while launching a number of important new models.
There have been new EVs, refreshed versions of its best-sellers and a number of upgraded performance models. Let’s take a look at all of the new BMWs that have been launched in 2022.
2 Series Coupe
If you want a fun and relatively affordable sports car, the latest BMW 2 Series Coupe is hard to beat. Introduced to the UK back in March, this new model retains the same rear-wheel-drive drivetrain as its predecessor, and whether you choose a more affordable petrol or diesel, or the top-spec M240i xDrive, it’s a hugely enjoyable car behind the wheel.
The 2 Series also offers a practical and spacious interior for a coupe, while the level of quality is superb, despite this being one of BMW’s most affordable cars.
2 Series Active Tourer
The 2 Series Active Tourer might not be BMW’s most popular product, but it holds a unique position in the line-up with its more practical focus. Offering up to 1,405 litres when the rear seats are folded, it's very useful for families that would rather have something that’s not an SUV.
The 2 Series Active Tourer hit showrooms back in March, benefitting from a raft of new engines, as well as a pair of plug-in hybrid powertrains offering up to 322bhp and offering up to 55 miles of zero-emissions driving. It also uses BMW’s latest infotainment system and its smart Curved Display.
Updated 3 Series
Though SUVs might now dominate proceedings at BMW, more traditional models like the 3 Series remain popular choices. The German firm refreshed the model back in September, updating both Saloon and Touring estate versions.
Key changes include the 3 Series adopting the aforementioned Curved Display, while the exterior has been smartened up and the trim level structure simplified. The result is nothing short of superb.
Updated 8 Series
Sitting near the top of BMW’s line-up is the 8 Series, which was brought back to life in 2018 and has then been updated for 2022 – the first examples arriving back in the Spring.
Affecting the Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe bodystyle, BMW introduced a larger new 12.3-inch touchscreen offering enhanced convenience and connectivity. The designs of the models were slightly tweaked too, while BMW also dropped the diesel engines from the line-up.
iX M60
BMW only introduced one new EV in 2022, though there are plenty in the pipeline ready to debut next year. But it was quite a significant debut in the form of the iX M60.
Worked on by BMW’s ‘M’ division, the M60 serves up a huge 611bhp and 1,100Nm of torque, enabling some astonishing performance figures – 0-60mph takes just 3.6 seconds. At the same time, BMW claims an impressive 348-mile range, while the iX’s modern interior is one of the best around.
M4 CSL
BMW doesn’t roll out the ‘CSL’ nameplate very often, but when it does, it makes sure it’s worthy. Reserved for the brand’s stripped-down, lighter models, the M4 CSL arrived in the UK in late summer, helping to celebrate BMW M’s 50th anniversary.
Power of the CSL increases to 542bhp, while it shaves 100kg from the regular M4 Competition. Several other mechanical and visual changes have been made to ensure this BMW is a true ‘CSL’ behind the wheel.
X1
Another major launch in 2022 for BMW has been the X1. While it might be the firm’s entry-level SUV, this new model brought a whole wealth of upgrades. It adopts a more stylish look, the latest Curved Display interior layout and impressive levels of interior space.
Only arriving in dealerships in October, the X1 is offered with a raft of new engines, including plug-in hybrids offering up to 53 miles of driving. Early next year will also see the introduction of the all-electric iX1.
Updated X7
Another significant BMW update in 2022 came in the form of the X7. It’s currently BMW’s flagship SUV and offers vast amounts of space, with seating for seven adults in comfort.
Many of the upgrades focus on technology and styling, with the Curved Display also being brought into the X7, while a new front-end layout includes an ‘Iconic Glow’ illuminated kidney grille. Various new engines were introduced, with many including mild-hybrid technology. The first new X7s arrived in the UK in September.
