BMW 2 Series range: What’s available?

BMW’s compact model is available with a whole lot of options - let’s take a look at what else it has in store

BMW’s 2 Series range has expanded to no longer feel like a spin-off of the 1 Series but a fully-fledged model in its own right. The newest 2 Series is available in a multitude of different guises, too, appealing to a variety of different buyers.

Here, we’re going to take a look through what the 2 Series has to offer and the different options there are to choose from.

2 Series Coupe

The new 2 Series Coupe is here, bringing a dramatic new look to BMW’s smallest two-door. Interestingly, though the 2 was always a coupe version of the 1 Series, this latest generation car is built on the same platform as the 3 Series - though it’s been made shorter. However, with its wide arches and punchy front end, this is a compact car that really does draw a lot of attention to itself.

It’s got plenty to offer in terms of powertrains, too. At the more frugal end of the spectrum, there are firm favourites like the diesel-powered 220d, which brings a great blend of performance and efficiency. There’s also the tip-top M240i variant, which uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol engine to deliver some serious punch.

2 Series Gran Coupe

If you like the look and feel of the 2 Series Coupe but need a little extra space, then the Gran Coupe version is a great choice. Of course, the most noticeable difference is the addition of an extra set of doors, which does help to make entering and exiting the vehicle a little easier. It’ll no doubt prove popular for those people who need to fit a car seat, too.

Much like the regular Coupe, there are plenty of engine options to choose from with the Gran Coupe, while even entry-level Sport specification adds plenty of standard equipment including 17-inch alloy wheels, a sports leather steering wheel and a variety of gloss black exterior styling elements.

2 Series Active Tourer

The previous-generation 2 Series Active Tourer was an underground success for BMW, so you can understand why it’s come back for more with a new version. This latest Active Tourer keeps core aspects that made its predecessor so popular - such as its flexible interior space and relatively compact footprint - and adds to them with a great sense of quality and even more tech than before.

In fact, it’s even got BMW’s very latest operating software, something that has only just been installed on cars like the i4 and iX EVs.
