Parking – it is something every driver must do and learn before passing their test and every time they get behind the wheel beyond that.
It isn’t the most exciting thing to learn, and for many can be incredibly tricky to nail down even after they’ve got a license.
Some cars can also be more helpful than others when it comes to getting into spaces, and here are some of our favourites…
Volvo V60
With the Park Assist Pilot system, the latest addition to Volvo’s range can do almost the entire motion of parking on its own, and does it excellently too. The estate has sensors and cameras on-board to detect spaces large enough for the car to move into, and when it finds a suitable space, it will prompt the driver and perform the manoeuvre all on its own – with the driver only needing to change gear and brake when needed.
Vauxhall Corsa
Although the Corsa can’t park itself, the supermini comes with great visibility, light steering to get you in the space and the option to fit sensors alongside a rear-view camera – making the whole process of parking much simpler.
Skoda Citigo
Much like the Corsa, the Citigo doesn’t come with any fancy tech or features – you just get a car that’s easy to manoeuvre and comes with great visibility. The boxy nature of the Citigo – and any other VW Group city car for that fact – make it easy to judge where the space is, as well as seeing which spaces you can sneak into.
Land Rover Discovery
Although this model is rather large, Land Rover ensured that drivers wouldn’t be floundering when it came to parking. The seven-seat Discovery can be fitted with the park pack, which adds a 360-degree camera and sensors, a rear traffic monitor and a clear exit monitor – just ensuring you don’t open your door out into a busy road with something coming.
BMW i3
BMW’s all-electric hatchback has wide windows that creates great visibility, but the German model can also come with the optional park assistant package, which adds a reversing camera and guidance lines, but it can also perform the manoeuvres all on its own – making sometimes difficult inner city parking into a doddle.
