Skoda has had lots of success with its SUVs – firstly with the Yeti in 2009 and then more recently with the current Kodiaq and Karoq
But now there is a third crossover joining the line-up – the Kamiq. This becomes the most affordable Skoda SUV, and despite it being the smallest in the line-up, the Czech firm is still ensuring the model is impressively practical.
The Kamiq is arriving into UK showrooms in November, and here’s everything you need to know about it.
What engines are available?
The Kamiq comes with a fairly extensive range of engines, including both petrol and diesel, which are widely used across the Volkswagen Group.
On the petrol side of things, there is a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, producing with either 94bhp and 113bhp. The most powerful engine in the range is a 148bhp 1.5-litre ‘Evo’ petrol engine.
For those looking for something that’s more efficient – the best option is the 113bhp 1.6-litre diesel engine.
All engines are offered with the choice of a manual or DSG automatic gearbox, with the exception of the entry-level 94bhp petrol engine, which comes exclusively with the manual transmission.
What trim levels are offered?
From launch the Skoda Kamiq will be available in three trim levels – S, SE and SE L – though a fourth range-topping Monte Carlo grade will follow in 2020. Here’s the highlights of each grade.
S – from £17,700
Standard equipment includes 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, rear LED lights, air conditioning and a 6.5-inch touchscreen with DAB radio.
SE – from £19,135
This adds 17-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers and an upgraded eight-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring to allow for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also comes with rear parking sensors, cruise control and automatic lights and wipers.
SE L – from £21,180
This luxury-focused models adds microsuede upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels and a larger 9.2-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation. It also gains blind spot monitoring, keyless start and fancier LED rear lights.
Monte Carlo – prices tbc
This flagship model is the sportier number with an extended styling pack, revised 18-inch alloy wheels and gloss black detailing. It also comes with a panoramic roof and red ambient interior lighting.
What about personalisation?
Skoda hasn’t revealed the full details about the new Kamiq, so it’s not quite clear what options will be available on the new model.
However, with a spec mimicking that of the new Scala hatchback, you should expect a broad range of alloy wheel designs, as well as a comprehensive range of additional extras such as a sporty interior and driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control.
