Buyer’s guide to the Maserati Ghibli

Buyer’s guide to the Maserati Ghibli

Maserati’s sleek saloon acts as a nice alternative to mainstream rivals.

The BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6 – three class-leaders that dominate the executive saloon segment. Maserati, however, do have an offering potentially tempting enough to sway buyers from the norm.

Named the Ghibli, it’s the Italian carmakers suave saloon that comes packed with all the character and style of any motor bearing the trident badge.

The model has been in production since 2013 and it received a facelift in 2017. Maserati claims the Ghibli is now ’70 per cent’ new compared to before the update.  Want to know more about it? Here’s our guide to the 2019 Maserati Ghibli…

What engines are available?

The Ghibli comes with a choice of three engines – two petrols and one diesel. Both petrols are twin-turbo V6s, with one producing 345bhp and the other — range-topping S — making 424bhp and 580Nm of torque. The S is capable of 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds, making it the one to go for if performance is key.

Those V6s were developed and are built by none other than Ferrari, so if owning a Maserati wasn’t enough, under the bonnet is where you’ll find some extra pedigree to boast about at the pub.

The diesel is a well-rounded package. The 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 unit still packs a punch with 271bhp and 601Nm of torque, but benefits from a claimed 40.3mpg as well.

What trim levels are offered?

Three trim levels are offered on the Ghibli, with equipment highlights as follows:

Ghibli – from £53,470

This is the base level trim and includes things such as 18-inch alloy wheels, sat nav, leather seats and heated mirrors.

Ghibli GranLusso – from £60,970

Adding some extra class, this trim gets its front bumper with chrome inserts, body colour side skirts, 19-inch wheels, adaptive full LED headlamps and soft-close doors.

Ghibli GranSport – from £60,970

Finally, this is the sportiest trim level Maserati offer on the Ghibli and it comes with sport bumpers, 20-inch wheels, full-LED Adaptive Matrix headlights, red painted brake callipers, sport seats and sport steering wheel.

What about personalisation?

The same 10 colour palette is available on all trim levels, comprised of two solid colours and eight metallic colours. Some of the latter include Grigio (Grey), Rosso Folgore (Red Lightning) and Blu Nobile (Noble Blue).

There’s a decent selection of wheel options across the range of trim levels too, so whether it’s a sporty or posh look you’re after, the Ghibli has a set of wheels for you – although make note some are only accessible as pricey options.

Interior wise, there’s some good stuff there as well. There’s plenty of different colour and trim options. In terms of seat colours, red, sand, blue and black are a few of the available options.
