Buyer’s guide to the Ford Kuga

We take a look at what's on offer for one of the most popular crossovers on the market...

As far as crossovers go, the Ford Kuga is a favourite amongst UK buyers. The model consistently ranks in the country’s top-selling cars — and it’s not hard to see why.

A comprehensive range of trims and engines means there’s something to suit every need — and we’ve taken a look at what’s on offer…

What engines are available?

Petrols

Three petrol engine options are on offer for the Ford Kuga — each based on a 1.5-litre EcoBoost unit.

First up is a 118bhp, 240Nm of torque option sending power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Ford says it can return 35.3mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 160g/km of CO2 (Zetec).

Following that is a 148bhp, 240Nm of torque variant. Power is sent to the front wheels through the choice of a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. With the former, it returns a claimed 34.9mpg and 164g/km of CO2 (Zetec), while the latter is said to deliver 29.1mpg and 201g/km of CO2 (Zetec).

Finally, a 174bhp, 240Nm of torque unit tops the petrol offerings. Power here is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox. It’s claimed it will return 28.8mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions weighing in at 208g/km (Titanium Edition).

Diesels

The Ford Kuga offers one of the most comprehensive diesel line-ups in the crossover market, with a choice of four.

Kicking the range off is a 1.5-litre, 118bhp and 270Nm of torque option sending power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. It’s said to return 45.6mpg and 137g/km of CO2 (Titanium Edition).

Next is a 2.0-litre unit, developing 118bhp and 300Nm of torque which is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox. As a result, Ford claims it can achieve 39.2mpg and 165g/km of CO2 (Titanium Edition).

Following that is another 2.0-litre, this time outputting 148bhp and 370Nm of torque, sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Ford says it can return 42.8mpg and 152g/km of CO2 (Titanium Edition).

Finally, a 2.0-litre, 178bhp and 400Nm of torque variant tops the range of diesels. It sends power to all four wheels, with the choice of a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. With the former, it’s said to return 39.8mpg and 166g/km of CO2, while in the latter, 38.2mpg and 165g/km of CO2.
