Citroen has successfully carved out its own path in recent years, offering funky-looking models that are well-priced and also very comfortable.
A model that performs all of these tasks is the C3 Aircross – a compact crossover that sits in a particularly competitive segment but is more than able to hold its own. Recently benefitting from a mid-life update, let’s look at what the new C3 Aircross offers.
What engines are available?
Citroen offers a choice of petrol and diesel engines with the C3 Aircross, with all versions being front-wheel-drive.
Starting with the petrol, there are two ‘PureTech’ models, each using a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine. There are outputs of 108bhp and 128bhp available, with the former equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox and the latter a six-speed automatic.
Starting with the 108bhp model, Citroen claims it can reach 60mph in 9.9 seconds while achieving up to 54.4mpg. If you settle for the 128bhp model, it cuts the acceleration time to nine seconds, though fuel consumption is docked to 47.2mpg.
If you’d prefer a diesel, on offer is a 108bhp 1.5-litre unit paired with a six-speed manual transmission. It can manage 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds but is quite a lot more efficient, with Citroen claiming an impressive 67.2mpg.
What trim levels are offered?
Citroen offers four different trim levels on the C3 Aircross, with equipment highlights and pricing as follows.
C-Series Edition – from £20,745
All models come with a decent level of equipment, with entry-level cars still getting black 16-inch alloy wheels, LED front and rear lights, automatic lights and wipers and electric folding door mirrors as standard. You also get a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Aito, rear parking sensors, cruise control and lane departure warning.
Shine – from £21,675
The Shine model brings automatic emergency braking, diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels, a gloss black exterior styling kit and a larger nine-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation.
Shine Plus – from £23,485
Shine Plus brings an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, larger 17-inch alloy wheels and a gloss black bi-tone roof with a panoramic sunroof. You also get tinted rear windows, part leather effect seats, a central armrest, front parking sensors and a reversing camera.
Rip Curl – from £24,485
At the top of the range is the special edition Rip Curl, which brings all-season tyres, a blue colour pack, as well as blue-effect seats and an upgraded Hi-Fi sound system.
What about personalisation?
Citroen absolutely majors in personalisation, and if you want to make your car stand out, this French firm is a great place to start. There are seven colours on offer, including the distinctive Voltaic Blue and Khaki Grey, while there are four “Colour Packs’ available, bringing contrasting accents to the lower bumpers and door mirrors. You can have the roof painted in black, white or the body colour too.
There aren’t too many optional extras available, but you can select wireless smartphone charging and a more advanced traction control system.
