After two years off the forecourt, the BMW Z4 is back and 2019 will see the popular roadster makes its return. With the German brand partnering up with Toyota to make chassis fit for the new Z4 and upcoming Supra, this car is set to be a star in 2019.
We take a brief look at the BMW Z4…
What engines are available?
Three petrol units will be provided with the Z4 from launch – all of which drive the rear wheels via an eight-speed sports transmission with a manual mode. The 20i and 30i units are based on the same turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine – with the base 20i developing 194bhp and 320Nm of torque. The 30i offers 255bhp and 400Nm of torque for some extra oomph, and is able to get the Z4 from 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds – before topping out at 155mph.
For the range-topping M40i option, BMW has allowed its M Division to fettle a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six to develop 335bhp and 500Nm – so it can reach 60mph from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds. It too has a top speed of 155mph.
What specifications are there to choose?
From launch, the Z4 is available with four trim levels – Sport, M Sport, M40i and First Edition – with the latter on offer in limited numbers and for the initial launch period. As standard, the Z4 comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic two-zone air conditioning, Bluetooth, the Live Cockpit Professional instrument display, LED head and brake lights, park distance control, heated leather seats and a sports steering wheel.
The M Sport version offers trim-specific equipment, such as a bodykit, sports suspension, braking system, leather steering wheel and M Sport 18-inch alloys – while the M40i features 19-inch wheels, exterior styling changes and M Sport equipment.
How much personalisation is available?
To allow customers as much wiggle room as possible, BMW offers the roadster with eight different body colours, four leather trim colours and three interior trim options. Six alloy wheel designs are also available.
There are a series of equipment packages to enhance the overall quality on offer, such as the Driving Assistant, Technology, Visibility, M Sport Plus, Comfort and Black packages – all of which are available between £500 and £1,950. Customers can also choose to fit individual pieces of equipment if they so choose.
How much does the Z4 cost?
For the 2019 Z4, prices start from £36,990 for the 20i Sport model – with M Sport options starting from £38,740. The range-topping starts from £49,050. Z4 deliveries will begin in the first quarter of 2019. See available Z4 deals.
