If a strong, utilitarian, reliable workhorse is what you’re after, Ford has some tempting offerings in its commercial vehicle line-up.
Comprised of eight vehicles – six vans, one chassis cab and one pickup – there’s a lot to choose from. So, to find out which option suits your needs best, here’s our buyers guide to Ford Commercial Vehicles…
Fiesta Van
As the smallest vehicle in the selection, it’s the least spacious but still a capable machine. For the regular Van (and not the Sport Van), two engines are available – an 84bhp 1.1-litre petrol or 84bhp 1.5-litre diesel. The petrol is good, although the diesel is the one to have. With a claimed 74.3mpg, it suits the van to a T.
The Sport Van is a little more of a well-rounded package, thanks to more powerful engines – a 123bhp 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol or a 118bhp version of the 1.5-litre diesel. It also adds sporty styling that may appeal to people who are after more than just a practical small van.

Transit Courier
The Transit Courier is a step up from the Fiesta Van, though remains the smallest vehicle in the Transit range. Over the Fiesta, it benefits from sliding rear doors and increased load space, making it more of a conventional van.
Two diesels – a 74bhp 1.5 and 94bhp 1.6-litre – and one 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol are offered. One of those diesels is the way to go if lots of miles is on the table, as Ford claims they both can achieve over 70mpg.

Transit Connect
The Transit Connect is the Courier’s slightly larger sibling. There are two lengths available, badged L1 and L2, giving buyers a number of options when it comes to how much space they need the Connect to have.
A 1.5-litre diesel engine powers the majority of the range and it comes with either 74bhp, 99bhp or 118bhp. As with the Courier and Fiesta Van, a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol is also offered.

Transit Custom
The Custom sits between the Connect and the full-size Transit, and acts as a nice middle ground amongst the overall line-up. It features just one engine – a 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel – but it does come with 104bhp, 128bhp or 168bhp. As well as this, you can get the model in two lengths, just like the Connect, which are, again, badged L1 and L2.

Transit
This is the flagship commercial vehicle from Ford. The legendary Transit is the largest in the line-up. There are many ways to configure this vehicle. For example, it comes in three different lengths, badged L2, L3 and L4, and two roof heights, badged H2 and H3.

Transit Chassis Cab
The barebones Chassis Cab allows the Transit to maximise payload and improve efficiency. Engine choice is, like the regular Transit, comprised of solely the 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel, however, variants of it is restricted to the 128bhp and 168bhp versions this time around.

If you want your Transit to be the Master of carrying people and not necessarily just large objects, good news because the Minibus version has been designed to do just that. It’s rather impressive and able to carry a maximum of 18 people.

Ranger
Ford’s popular pickup, the Ranger, is an attractive package. If you want something to use as both a commercial vehicle and perhaps a family car, the Ranger should serve you well with a more premium feel than the majority of the line-up.
