Hyundai Kona Electric
Hyundai’s Kona Electric was a real game changer in the electric car world when it arrived in 2018 – proving that a long range wasn’t restricted to high-end EVs. And even three years later, it still can go the furthest distance on a charge in its class – a seriously impressive 300 miles.
The Kona Electric is also good to drive and comes with a generous amount of equipment included for the price, with the top-spec 201bhp model offering plenty of pace. A more affordable 39kWh, 134bhp version is also available for those looking for something more affordable, and it can still manage 189 miles from a single charge.

Vauxhall is aiming to only sell electric cars by 2028, and is unsurprisingly ramping up its range of EVs at quite the rate. One of its latest offerings is the new Mokka-e, which is sold alongside petrol and diesel versions of this crossover. The new Mokka is one of Vauxhall’s best-looking cars in years, while also gets a tech-laden interior and generous equipment levels.
Recent revisions also mean the Mokka-e can now go further from a single charge, with Vauxhall now claiming 209 miles, while 100kW rapid charging capability means its battery can be charged to 80 per cent in just half an hour.

MG’s ZS EV was already one of the most appealing electric crossovers on the market, but it’s recently got even better thanks to a mid-life update. The biggest change is the addition of a new Long Range model that gives this MG a fantastic claimed range of 273 miles. Considering the ZS EV’s low starting price, it really is a steal.
This update also brought fresher styling to differentiate it from the standard petrol ZS, while gaining a much-improved media system. It continues to get a seven-year warranty and a long list of standard equipment, and is hard to beat in this segment.

Kia’s e-Niro is a sibling model to the Hyundai Kona Electric, and is proving a very popular choice in the EV market. Offering a range of up to 282 miles – which is quite realistic too – the e-Niro is also good to drive and gets Kia’s fantastic seven-year warranty included.
With generous equipment levels and a practical interior, the e-Niro would make a great first electric car, especially for families.

Peugeot has really upped its game in recent years, and the e-2008 is a superb example of this. With its striking design and premium interior, it feels especially upmarket. This model is a sibling car to the Vauxhall Mokka-e, meaning it shares that car’s powertrain and quick charging times, though the claimed electric range is slightly lower at 206 miles.
Though it’s a bit more expensive to buy than the Mokka, it helps to justify that when you jump inside. Elsewhere, the e-2008 is smooth and refined, while being just as practical as the regular petrol and diesel versions that Peugeot sells.
