We say Probably the most disgusting car ever seen. But there’s just a chance the unique, basic-but-enormous Rodius could be the ideal car for you.Performance A 163bhp 2.7-litre turbodiesel through a 5-speed box delivers 252lb-ft of torque. It's just about enough to drag the bulk of the Rodius around in reasonable fashion, but get it up to speed and it cruises well. Can tow 2.5 tonnes too.Emissions 32mpg and 223/gkm is possible on rear-wheel drive Rodius models. Auto box hits fuel economy and pushes emissions to 247 or 250g/km of CO2.Driving Driving the Rodius is not an enjoyable past-time. Massive body roll, poor performance, vague handling and masses of body roll are apparent.Feel Very noisy when the unwilling engine is pushed, but a decent cruiser at motorway speeds.Space Huge, huge space that’s virtually unrivalled in passenger vehicles. It’s versatile too with folding, swivelling seats that can actually double as beds. Comfortably seats seven and actually has a gangway running down the middle.Equipment Climate control, alloys, electric windows and MP3 CD/radio are standard. Leather and cruise control at higher specs. A satnav and parking sensors are optional.Price Cheap to buy – especially considering the Rodius’ huge bulk, but the same Ssangyong problems with running costs and residuals won't help. Run it for ten years and it may be a bargain though.Quality The interior is durable, if not luxurious and looks built for practicality. Should be fine mechanically as most moving bits come from Mercedes.Safety Two front airbags, ABS and ESC are standard but no other airbags are available in the ageing Rodius. Privacy glass can be specified.Pros The Ssangyong Rodius is genuinely enormous and fairly unique on British roads. It can tow, swallow seven plus luggage and prove a comfortable cruiser.Cons The Rodius really is pig ugly, very basic inside and a very gruff drive.Alternatives Ford Galaxy, Renault Espace, Kia Sedona, Chrysler Grand Voyager
