All engines and specifications offer under 200bhp, with the exception of the range-topping GT trim which uses a 2.2 litre HDi diesel with 204bhp. This model has the best 0-60mph acceleration time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 139mph. Performance throughout is not exciting but offer decent pulling power.Emissions The 508 is impressively economic, particularly with the 112bhp 1.6-litre e-HDi diesel engine which emits just 109g/km in CO2 and has a fuel economy of 67mpg. Other engines perform well in this area to, with the GT model producing the most CO2 at just 150g/km. The basic 1.6-litre petrol engines still offer a fuel economy of 44 or 45mpg.Driving Enjoyable to drive particularly thanks to the sharp handling and large amount of front end grip. The EGC manual transmission is an acquired taste though, which requires patience from the driver, works best with the sequential gearshift lever or steering column mounted paddles.Feel Engines are smooth as well as refined; the ride is somewhat firm however.Space Plenty of room inside for four adults and luggage. While legroom is not quite as much compared to some rival saloons, it’s still good while headroom is also plentiful. The boot can hold up to 473 litres.Equipment There are five trim levels in total; the standard Access model just gives you the basics while pricier trims add some neat luxuries like cruise control, Bluetooth and satellite navigation.Price Pricing currently ranges from £18,450 to £29,050.Quality The 508 not only looks good outside and inside, but the materials feel very nice as well. All the switches and controls are neatly placed and easy to use. Road noise isn’t a real problem either. A big step forward overall from the Peugeot 407.Safety Plenty of standard safety kit including surrounding airbags, anti-lock brakes and dynamic stability control. The 508 does not have a Euro NCAP safety rating yet but will probably do very well.Pros The distinctive looks are classy; materials are high quality, well laid out interior, wide range of efficient engines, low vehicle excise duty.Cons Higher end specifications are pricey, the ride is firm and entry-level versions are limited on equipment.Alternatives Vauxhall Insignia, Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Passat
