We say The CLK Cabriolet is a classy looker and driver, but flawed for what it was in the sector.Performance There are many petrol engines to choose from, including an entry-level 1.8-litre unit with 163bhp or 181bhp, plus a couple of V6s and a V8. The V6 models with auto gearboxes are solid, but to give the CLK a real kick though there is a 5.5-litre AMG engine with 382bhp, this gives the car a 0-60mph acceleration time of 5.1 seconds while the top speed is limited at 155mph.Emissions The CLK convertible fairs poorly in this area, one of the main reasons is because there are no diesel engines to choose. The average CO2 emissions output across the range is 248g/km, peaking at 278g/km. The greenest model, the basic 200K can average 33mpg for fuel economy and emits 205g/km.Driving The CLK can cover long distances with ease and comfort. The engines give the car a decent level of pulling power and the chassis does a very good job negotiating bumps and corners.Feel The rear-wheel drive steering is very responsive, but mix one of the more powerful engines with a wet road and the car can become precarious.Space Even with the roof up the CLK Cabriolet can seat four adult passengers, although it’s a bit tight in the back. The boot can store 276 litres worth of luggage which isn’t bad for a convertible.Equipment There are three trims for the CLK Cabriolet, and as standard you get alloy wheels, climate control and cruise control. Some options like leather seat trim and folding rear seats are only optional on every specification.Price The new model price range varies from £32,335 to £52,840. You can get a used model for considerably less.Quality Everything looks nice but the build isn’t great as small parts of the cabin trim can come loose. There are also occasional problems with the seats. The convertible roof does a good job of suppressing the wind and noise but things can get blustery in the back when its down.Safety Six airbags and electronic stability are provided standard. Rear side airbags can be included optional as well. This car doesn’t have a Euro NCAP rating but there should be no real concerns regarding the cabriolet’s safety. One thing worth keeping in mind though is the reports of high tyre wear whilst driving this car.Pros Looks classy and drives well over a long distance, seats are comfortable, performance from the engine range is good.Cons The engine range has no diesels and does poorly in terms of efficiency and emissions.
