We say The C-Class Coupe feels close to being a grand tourer but it's pleasant to drive and well-built, if expensive.Performance To move the coupe along you get five engines to choose from, three petrol and two diesel units. In the petrol line up there is a 1.8-litre engine with 153bhp or 201bhp, and the range-topping 3.5-litre V6 with 301bhp. The V6 gives the C-Class a limited top speed of 155mph and a 0-60mph acceleration time of just 5.8 seconds. Alternatively there are two 2.2-litre diesels with 167bhp or 201bhp.Emissions If green credentials are important to you, then picking one of the diesel engine models is the way to go. The 167bhp unit with manual transmission does 55mpg and emits 133g/km in CO2. The 201bhp version with an automatic gearbox isn’t far off with a fuel economy recorded at 53mpg and CO2 emissions at 139g/km. Most of the petrol engines will do 40mpg and CO2 output ranges from 162 to 169g/km.Driving The C-Class with its coupe body is engaging to drive; it has a lot of front-end grip and corners well. The car gets stiffened AMG suspension as standard which keeps body roll to a minimum.Feel The steering doesn’t have as much feedback as rival coupes, but the C-Class is still entertaining and rides smoothly even though it has 18” wheels.Space There’s plenty of legroom in the front but the rear can only really seat children and the car’s sweeping roofline compromises headroom somewhat. The boot has a load space of 450 litres, which is very close to rival models.Equipment The C-Class Coupe gets the same equipment as its Saloon Sport trim counterpart. Standard items include 18” AMG alloys and body kit, plus sport seats and climate control.Price Pricing starts from £30,220 and rises up to £39,635. The AMG range starts from £57,745.Quality The cabin materials and equipment are fitted nicely and even with some sporty touches here and there, the coupe has a premium feel around it.Safety The C-Class Coupe has received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP and comes packed with safety equipment. Electronic stability and a pre-crash bracing system come standard. The coupe is also available with ten driving assist programmes including a Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist.Pros The drive is very composed; front end is grippy, premium interior with good quality materials and comfy seats.Cons Space and headroom in the back is limited, the standard 18” AMG sport wheels hurts efficiency and emissions output, and servicing can be expensive.Alternatives BMW 3 Series Coupe, Audi A5 Coupe
