We say Looks interesting and provides a good drive, but it falls in between several stools. Is it a hot hatch, MPV or something else. Who knows?Performance 2.2-litre turbodiesel and 2.4-litre petrol models available with the PT Cruiser. The former 150bhp engine is punchier at lower revs, more refined and has enough power on the motorway.Emissions 40mpg combined and 185g/km in the 2.2 diesel are the PT Cruiser’s best efforts.Driving Good grip, good cornering, little body roll – the PT Cruiser is surprisingly driveable given its odd looks and high stance.Feel The diesel grunts a little when stretched. Quite a firm ride in the PT Cruiser too.Space The Chrysler PT Cruiser has enough space to comfortably accommodate four passengers. Rear seats can be folded or removed completely. Boot space is good at 620 litres of boot space.Equipment Aircon, central locking, CD player, electric windows and mirrors. Alloys cruise control and leather at higher trims.Price Good running costs if driven cannily. Good following means residuals hold up well, but the PT Cruiser is a tad pricey to start with.Quality Interior looks good and durable. The PT Cruiser is likely to be reliable.Safety Four bags in the front and at the side in the PT Cruiser. Traction control, ABS too.Pros Quirky looks, good drive, well equipped, good space.Cons Not overly practical for the small MPV market.Alternatives Renault Scenic
