We say A seriously underpowered and outgunned car that can’t match rivals.Performance 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre petrol models are fine around town but struggle badly on the open road.Emissions Emissions are very high for a 1.0-litre petrol engine at 158 g/km on the Matiz. Fuel economy at around 40mpg.Driving Suspension is OK if you avoid large potholes, though the Matiz competent it's not a car to put the fun into driving.Feel Neither engine likes being pushed, but cope OK while cruising once they get up to speed – if you can stand the noise of 1,000 angry bees.Space The Matiz is tiny. It’s cramped for four passengers and the boot space is small, though the rear seating splits 60/40.Equipment Basic trim on the Matiz has a CD player, central locking and power steering. SX trim provides aircon and alloys.Price The Chevy Matiz is very cheap, with middling running costs. Residuals will sink like a lead balloon.Quality The Matiz looks and feels exactly what it is: cheap. Engines should be no bother though.Safety ABS and two front airbags are entry-level safety kit on the Matiz.Pros Good in town, cheap, economical.Cons Poor drive and quality. Cramped. Generally crap.Alternatives Fiat Panda, Kia Picanto
