Vauxhall announces prices and specs for new Astra hatchback

Stylish model debuts a new range structure for the firm

Vauxhall has announced that prices for its new Astra will start from £23,275 as the British brand confirms a new range structure for the popular model.

The new Astra symbolises a radical reinvention for this best-seller, gaining a bold new design inspired by Vauxhall’s latest design language, a range of technology advancements and also a plug-in hybrid option for the first time.

The Astra helps to establish a new trim structure – Design, GS Line and Ultimate – which Vauxhall says will be rolled out on both its current line-up in the future, as well as upcoming new models.

Prices for the new Astra start from £23,275 for the Design, with standard kit including 16-inch alloy wheels, touchscreen and digital instrument cluster both measuring 10 inches, LED headlights and electronic climate control.

GS Line is next and offers a sportier design, with extras including 17-inch alloy wheels, a black grille, black roof, keyless entry and start, heated steering wheel and heated front seats. It also features a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control and keyless entry and start.

At the top of the range is the Ultimate, which is available from £29,285. It gains 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, IntelliLux Matrix LED headlights, head-up display, wireless smartphone charging and Alcantara seats. A full suite of driver assistance tech is fitted too, including lane change assist, blind spot alert and rear cross traffic alert.

Petrol, diesel and hybrid options are available, with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol kicking off the range, and being offered with outputs of 108bhp or 128bhp. Higher mileage drivers will also be able to choose a 128bhp turbocharged 1.5-litre diesel.

A new plug-in hybrid option is also available, with a combination of a 1.6-litre petrol and electric motor generating 177bhp, while allowing 35 miles of electric driving once the battery is fully charged. Vauxhall will introduce a more powerful 222bhp plug-in hybrid version next year, while an electric Astra-e will follow in 2023 as the brand steps up its EV line-up.

While currently just available as a five-door hatchback, Vauxhall will also introduce a Sports Tourer estate version in the near future.

Order books for the new Vauxhall Astra are now open, with first deliveries expected in the first quarter of next year.
