Lexus has announced a range of updates to its ES 300h hybrid saloon as part of changes being introduced for 2022.
With the compact IS saloon being discontinued in Europe, the ES is now the Japanese premium firm’s most affordable saloon car, and rivals the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, albeit at a more affordable price.
Key changes include the addition of a range of new technology, with the model receiving a new upgraded multimedia system on a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while being the latest Lexus to adopt clever new adaptive LED headlights that aim to provide greater vision without dazzling other motorists.
Its range of safety assists have also been bolstered, with improved radars and cameras now able to detect cyclists and pedestrians at night, while ‘Emergency Steering Assist’ aims to keep the car stable during emergency manoeuvres. Lexus has also revised its digital door mirrors (which work using cameras) to provide clear images that are shown in poor light conditions.
While the ES’s design hasn’t been tweaked too much, the model’s recognisable ‘spindle grille’ gets a new look with fewer vertical bars, along with slimmer LED headlights being fitted. Various new alloy wheel designs are available too, depending on trim level.
Inside, there is now the option to have the model’s walnut trim inserts in a black or brown finish, along with a black and white leather combination.
The updated Lexus ES is now on sale, with prices starting from £35,905 for the standard car and rising to £49,455 for a top-spec Takumi.
