Rolls-Royce has announced that it recorded its best year ever for sales in 2021, despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
All produced at the brand’s headquarters in Goodwood, West Sussex, 5,586 Rolls-Royces were delivered in 2021 – a 49 per cent increase on the same period in 2020. The luxury firm said it had posted ‘all-time record sales in most regions’, such as China, America and Asia-Pacific.
Rolls-Royce said its growth has been spurred on by the second-generation Ghost, which was introduced last year as the brand’s more ‘affordable’ option, and was followed up by the introduction of a sportier Black Badge version later in 2021. The Cullinan SUV also continues to account for a large chunk of sales, with order books now spanning into the third quarter of 2022.
The brand’s bespoke commissions division is also said to be working at a ‘record level’, with a range of individual examples produced in 2021, including with brands such as Hermes.
Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said: “This has been a truly historic year for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. In the past 12 months, we have recorded our highest-ever annual sales, launched the latest addition to our Black Badge family, stunned the world with our coachbuilding capabilities and made huge strides into our all-electric future.
“As always, it has been made possible by the dedication and commitment of the extraordinary people at the Home of Rolls-Royce, our international team and our global dealer network. I wish to extend my thanks and congratulations to each and every one of them: it is my privilege and pleasure to work alongside them every day.”
Last year Rolls-Royce also teased its first EV, called the Spectre. Set to arrive at the end of next year, the brand has already begun an extreme testing cycle that will see it being driven more than 1.5 million miles around the world.
