Porsche Taycan gains new driver-centred GTS version

Sporty EV is also now available in a new Sport Turismo estate style

Porsche has revealed a more driver-focused GTS version of its electric Taycan ahead of the LA motor show.

The GTS nameplate is widely used by Porsche on its petrol models, including both its sports cars and SUVs, and aims to bridge the gap between the entry-level versions and more extreme performance models.

The same applies to the Taycan GTS, which is described as the ‘sporting all-rounder’. Featuring a special setup as part of the adaptive air suspension, the rear-axle steering is also more responsive, while Porsche has also created a ‘richer’ electric sound to accompany it.

The Taycan also benefits from the usual GTS styling cues, such as black highlights on the front bumper, door mirrors and window trim, while inside it gets a smart black ‘race-Tex’ upholstery, along with a darkened brushed aluminium finish for the car’s decorative inserts.

The Taycan GTS uses Porsche’s largest 93.4kWh battery, which enables an impressive 590bhp when in an overboost mode. It allows for a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. A range of up to 312 miles is also promised.

Also on show in LA is a new body style for the Taycan, called Sport Turismo. It’s essentially a more conventional estate car-like version, rather than the more rugged-looking Cross Turismo model, which has been on sale for a few months already. With 45mm more rear headroom than the Taycan saloon, it makes it a more practical choice, while also having a boot measuring up to 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded.

A new addition to the Taycan GTS is a clever panoramic glass roof that features a special film that protects the occupants from the sun’s glare, while still letting in the same amount of light.

The new Porsche Taycan GTS is now on sale, with prices starting from £104,190 for the saloon and £104,990 for the Sport Turismo. First deliveries are expected next spring.
