Mini Hatch: 5 reasons why you should choose this supermini

This popular supermini has plenty to offer

There are few British cars more iconic than the Mini Hatch, and this model remains a hugely popular choice – now outselling cars like the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf.

Though a next-generation Mini Hatch is due later on in 2023, the current car still has plenty to offer. Here are five reasons why you should have a look at this supermini.

Stylish looks

Ever since BMW launched its new Mini in the early 2000s, this has been a model that’s all about style. It’s why, even several generations later, the design is still immediately recognisable as a Mini, thanks to its big round headlights and distinctive silhouette and roof shape.

More recent models have only built on this, gaining more ‘British’ touches, such as Union-Jack-inspired rear light that play on the model’s heritage, and successfully too.

Great fun to drive

Minis have always managed to be great fun to drive, and even though the models have had to get slightly heavier over the years as they’ve needed to become more advanced and safer, they remain as enjoyable as ever.

Even the standard Cooper is great fun, with its agile nature and peppy nature, but it’s the sportier Cooper S and John Cooper Works hot hatches that deliver the most excitement – putting out up to 228bhp in the case of the JCW.

Generously equipped

If you want to feel like you’re getting plenty for your money, the Mini Hatch is a great choice. Standard equipment includes front and rear LED lights, along with a large 8.8-inch touchscreen that boasts plenty of features.

It’s not just the equipment on offer that impresses, either, but also the quality as the Mini Hatch feels like an especially premium product, and almost like a shrunken version of an executive car when it comes to the material feel and build quality.

Lots of scope for personalisation

Another area where the Mini Hatch has long excelled is when it comes to personalisation, as if you take full advantage of this brand’s customisation offering, you’re unlikely to ever see a model specced in the same way.

There’s a broad range of colours available, and you can choose to have the roof and mirrors painted in a contrasting colour as well. A real highlight is the optional Multitone roof, which has a special colour-fade effect, switching from one shade to another across the full length of the roof.

Electric version available

While the Mini Hatch is available with a broad range of petrol engines, you can now choose an Electric version of this iconic model.

Ideal for use around the city, the Mini Electric boasts performance that can rival the Cooper S hot hatch, and the same fun and quirky styling – the only real visual clue is that there’s no exhaust tip at the rear.
