Skoda’s Scala is a very enticing choice in the hatchback segment

Skoda offers a number of well-known models, including the long-running Octavia and Fabia, as well as the popular Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs. 

But one model many might not be familiar with is the Scala. Introduced in 2019, it’s Skoda’s Ford Focus rival, and slots between the Fabia and Octavia in the brand’s line-up. Offering lots of appeal in this segment, here are five reasons why you should consider the 2023 Skoda Scala. 

Great value for money compared to rivals

It’s no secret that new car prices have risen dramatically in recent years, and that has, in particular, affected the more affordable end of the spectrum. There was a time when many mid-size family hatchbacks could be bought for around £20,000, but these days even an entry-level Ford Focus or Volkswagen Golf come in at upwards of £25,000. 

That’s where the Skoda Scala comes in, as with a starting price of £20,120, it offers fantastic value for money – being a similar price to far smaller superminis from the class below. Even a flagship model comes in at £27,435, which again is a very good price by today’s standards. 

Lots of standard equipment

That low price doesn’t mean you’re shortchanged when it comes to equipment, however, as even entry-level SE specification models come with lots of kit as standard. 

Highlights include LED headlights, cruise control and rear parking sensors, while an excellent eight-inch touchscreen is also fitted, bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. 

Spacious interior

The Skoda Scala sits in the mid-size hatchback category, and as this is a particular choice of class for family buyers, space and practicality are a must. 

This Skoda won’t disappoint, either, as it’s one of the most spacious models in this class. Space in the rear isn’t too dissimilar to the far larger Octavia, while the 467-litre boot is a fantastic size, and almost 100 litres than rivals like the Vauxhall Astra. It really is a very practical choice in this category. 

Lots of technology on offer

Though the Scala might be an affordable choice in its segment, Skoda hasn’t scrimped regarding the technology as standard, as well as what’s optionally available. 

As we’ve mentioned, even the entry-level SE trim comes equipped with a touchscreen, but this can be upgraded by choosing the SE L grade, which gets a larger 9.2-inch ‘Amundsen’ system boasting additional connectivity and satellite navigation. On the options list, you’ll also find wireless smartphone charging and a Travel Assist Plus package that boasts adaptive cruise control and an advanced lane-keep assist feature. 

Sporty-looking Monte Carlo model on offer

The Skoda Scala is already an attractive-looking hatchback, particularly when paired with the extended tailgate glass black, which gives it more visual presence. 

But for those wanting something a bit more eye-catching, there’s the Monte Carlo grade. Also offered on Skoda’s Fabia and Kamiq. Bringing larger alloy wheels, it also boasts more aggressive-looking bumpers as well as a black styling pack. A panoramic glass roof is also fitted to complete the design package.
