2022 BMW 7 Series and i7: Further details announced

Brand has revealed tech and design details about new luxury flagship

BMW has announced new technology and design details about its upcoming next-generation 7 Series at the group’s annual conference.

The 7 Series is BMW’s flagship luxury saloon and remains a key pillar of this brand, with its design and technology showcasing a range of elements we could see on more affordable models from the firm in the coming years.

Its design is set to remain especially bold too, with a new teaser image showing the model’s ultra-wide grille, which looks to be inspired by the recent BMW ‘XM’ concept car. Slim LED headlights will feature too.

The new 7 Series will be sold with petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains – with the latter model set to be a hugely important model for the firm. Known as the i7, BMW has said this EV’s design will be ‘completely reinterpreted’ from the regular car to make it stand out.

This i7 model is expected to use similar powertrains to the brand’s new iX electric SUV, and though few details about the setup has been revealed, BMW has said it will offer a range of ‘more than 600km (373 miles)’.

Inside, the i7 will use BMW’s latest Curved Display and iDrive infotainment system, while it will showcase the brand’s new ‘Interaction Bar’, essentially an ambient light bar that provides both visual and haptic feedback. A new panoramic glass roof will also be available, with BMW saying it will feature ‘LED light threads that can be individually tailored’.

Elsewhere, the new 7 Series will come with a 32-inch ‘Theatre Screen’, which will come out of the headlining and offer rear passengers a ‘private cinema lounge’ experience.

The new BMW 7 Series range is set to be unveiled on April 20.
