Buyer’s guide to the Renault CAPTUR

Here’s what you need to know about Renault’s best-selling CAPTUR crossover.

The CAPTUR was Renault’s first crossover, and it’s helped this French manufacturer go from strength to strength, with the model rising to the position of the best-selling model in its sector throughout Europe.

Famed for its low starting price, stylish looks and plentiful personalisation, the CAPTUR has loads of appeal in the compact crossover segment – standing out next to much of the opposition.

While a new second-generation model will be arriving in showrooms in 2020, the outgoing model is still hugely appealing. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

What engines are available?

The current line-up is made up of three turbocharged petrol engines.

Kicking off the range is the TCe 90, which uses an 89bhp 0.9-litre turbocharged unit, which is paired to a five-speed manual transmission. This engine is ideal for those predominantly driving in towns and cities, with this peppy engine able to accelerate from 0-62mph in 13.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 106mph. This unit is also the most efficient engine in the line-up – returning up to 45.6mpg, with CO2 emissions of 125g/km.

Next in the range is the TCe 130, which features a 1.3-litre unit producing 128bhp and comes paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. This is our pick of the CAPTUR range, as it delivers a great mix of efficiency and economy. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in 10.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 124mph. As for efficiency, it can return up to a claimed 44.1mpg, with CO2 emissions of 128g/km.

Sitting at the top of the range is the TCe 150 – a more powerful version of the 1.3-litre engine producing 148bhp. It cuts the 0-62mph time down to 9.5 seconds and can hit a claimed top speed of 130mph. Thanks to its efficient six-speed automatic transmission, it returns 43.4mpg, along with CO2 emissions of 125g/km.
