Buyer’s guide to the Audi Q7

Audi has recently updated its large seven-seat Q7. Here’s what you need to know.

In the large SUV world, there’s very little time for manufacturers to sit still.

Nearly every month there seems to be another large SUV, each offering more tech and equipment than the last along with all-new levels of luxury.

The Audi Q7 has recently been updated in order to ensure it keeps pace with new rivals, such as the Mercedes GLE and BMW X5. The facelift brought in bolder styling, along with a new twin touchscreen setup adopted from the flagship Audi Q8. Mild-hybrid technology is also standard across the range.

What engines are available?

The Q7 range kicks off with a 228bhp 3.0-litre diesel engine, which is badged as the 45 TDI.

Up next is the 282bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, which is called the 50 TDI. This can accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.3 seconds, and reach a top speed of 150mph.

The sole petrol option in the range is the 55 TFSI – a 335bhp 3.0-litre V6 unit. This managed 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds, along with an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.

Each Q7 features 48-volt mild hybrid technology, which helps to recuperate energy when the car is decelerating. An eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox is also fitted to every model, along with quattro all-wheel-drive.

A sportier SQ7 version – featuring a 429bhp 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine – will join the range later in 2019, while a plug-in hybrid is also on the way.

What trim levels are offered?

Four trim levels are offered on the updated Q7, with each featuring a comprehensive list of standard equipment. Below are the highlights of each trim. Please note the prices are currently approximates from Audi, as full pricing is yet to be confirmed.

Sport (only on the 45 TDI engine) – from £56,500

This version includes 19-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights, adaptive air suspension, twin touchscreens, electrically-operated and heated leather seats and an electric tailgate.

S line from – £61,500

On top of Sport, this adds 20-inch alloy wheels, an S line styling kit, sports seats, rear privacy glass, brushed aluminium interior inlays and leather sports seats.

Black Edition – from £66,000

In addition to the S line, this grade adds gloss black 21-inch alloy wheels, adaptive sports suspension, gloss black styling kit, four-zone climate control and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Vorsprung – from £82,500

This range-topping version adds 22-inch alloy wheels, all-wheel steering, laser-assisted LED headlights, heated rear seats, an extended leather package, a Bose sound system, a head-up display and a 360-degree camera.

What about personalisation?

Audi is yet to finalise all the options for the Q7, but given the extensive choice on the last car, buyers will still have plenty of ways to personalise their car.

The standard colour palette is expected to be quite mundane, but handily Audi offers an ‘Exclusive’ range of colours, which brings a whole lot more variety.

A range of packages will also be offered – including the Comfort and Sound Pack, which adds a Bose sound system, multicolour LED interior lighting and a 360-degree camera.
