We say A rugged SUV from Peugeot? Don’t worry, because it’s actually a rebadged Mitsubishi Outlander and is reliable and well-built, if a little dull.Performance The single diesel engine is powerful but refined, meaning it comes into its own on motorways as a cruiser.Emissions 194g/km means it is in the second highest road tax band. Fuel consumption is a slightly better 39mpg but as a large SUV, it will be expensive to run.Driving Superb cruiser, and capable around corners without being spectacular. Features all-wheel drive but it isn’t a rugged off-roader. At least it will deliver extra grip in poor weather.Feel Very quiet with little to no wind or engine noise. The Mitsubishi roots are on show here.Space The Peugeot 4007 seats five and has a generous load capacity. Built with the family in mind, the Peugeot 4007 has an estate-like rear end but offers quite awkward boot access.Equipment The 4007 comes well equipped with climate and cruise control as standard but higher specification models can get expensive.Price At £25,000 it is more expensive than other soft-roaders in the market and arguably worse-looking than the Outlander and Citroen C-Crosser it shares a platform with. Residuals are not great either.Quality Based on a Mitsubishi Outlander, so it high quality and reliable as a large family car. It is also a reliable model.Safety With ESP as standard and a range of airbags, there’s nothing to complain about here.Pros The Peugeot 4007 is a more rugged, estate-like SUV with excellent refinement as a cruiser. The engines are capable and not too expensive to run.Cons More expensive than more practical rivals and its styling is dated compared to some competitors. Fallen behind the likes of the Peugeot 5008 in the French brand’s range.Alternatives Mitsubishi Outlander, Citroen C-Crosser, Ford Kuga
