We say A decent hard-top coupe-cabriolet from Peugeot. Stylish and good to drive, it is well worth considering in a competitive field.Performance Strong petrol and diesels from the hatchback version, but the folding roof adds a bit of weight so performance suffers. For economy and running costs, choose a diesel.Emissions Only average at over 150g/km for the cleanest engine, the 1.6-litre unit. But do people by drop-tops for efficiency?Driving Responsive steering, plenty of grip and lower suspension are all present and correct. A very nice car to drive and feels solid enough with a roof down.Feel The wind deflector does its job creating a quieter environment in the cabin with the roof down and with it up the fact it is a metal roof helps keep noise out.Space The Peugeot 308 CC offers four seats but rear two can be cramped. Like the 207 CC, the roof infringes on boot space, but it is bigger than the 307 CC it replaced.Equipment Four trim levels starting with Sport offering ESP, radio, CD player, air con, front fog lights and 16” alloys. The 308 CC comes with a good level of starting equipment.Price £20,595 is the bottom level for a new one which is not the cheapest around. Running costs shouldn’t be bank-busting and, for a convertible, residuals are ok.Quality Part of Peugeot’s push for better quality, more upmarket cars and you can tell the difference inside the cabin. Still a few cheap plastics but not enough to be a deal-breaker.Safety ESP is standard and passenger, driver and front headrest airbags are fitted. A good safety crash test shows Peugeot is serious about safety.Pros The Peugeot 308 CC is well-built, attractive and well-specced. It is one of the strongest competitors in its segment and the folding roof is a clever bit of kit.Cons Space in the back is limited and the roof limits boot space. The metal roof is heavy and this affect performance.Alternatives Renault Megane CC, Mazda MX-5
