We say The Peugeot 1007 is a fun and funky supermini with distinctive styling but it is very niche, poor to drive and feels a bit cheap.Performance The 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrols struggle a little through a semi-automatic box. The diesel is torquey and available through a manual box.Emissions The 1007 is a small car and as a result the engines are efficient. The diesel returns 47mpg and even petrol options are inexpensive to run.Driving Soft ride but body roll and steering let the side down on driveability front. Disappointing around the city, an area it is aimed at.Feel The diesel clatters and the auto-box is awkward but the petrols run smooth. There is a fair bit of road noise. The 1007 is not a particularly refined car.Space The clever electric sliding doors improve access to the 1007 and help in packed city car parks. There’s also good space inside for two but the two rear seats are a bit cramped. Alternatively, the boot can be extended to nearly 1000 litres when rear seats are folded.Equipment Aircon, electric windows and CD player are standard, with alloys on the higher trim.Price Decent running costs and list price. The 1007 is becoming a popular used car buy because of low prices in the used market.Quality Sturdy and should be reliable but interior looks a little cheap. The sliding electric doors have proved to be reliable enough and there are no problems with the engines.Safety The 1007 excels in terms of safety. You get stability control, loads of airbags and ABS, which contribute to a maximum NCAP rating.Pros The Peugeot 1007 is an extremely safe car and its compact dimensions lend themselves to city driving. It comes with a good level of kit and sliding doors for added practicality.Cons The styling is lacklustre and handling is disappointing. The starting price is a little high and residuals are not great.Alternatives Vauxhall Meriva
