We say Interesting looks will split opinion and it’s all rather dull and basic, but the Grandis looks good from cost and space perspectives.Performance The Grandis’s 2.4-litre petrol model churns out 162bhp through a five-speed manual or four-speed auto box and has mid-range pull. 2.0-litre turbodiesel from VW is gutsy but noisy when revved.Emissions 43mpg and 176g/km is possible with the diesel. Not amazing, but reasonable considering the size of the big Mitsubishi MPV.Driving The Grandis’ steering is light, body-roll significant and the ride well-damped. Great if you're using the Grandis to transport people in relative comfort. Rubbish you're into your driving.Feel The Grandis cruises well but neither engine likes to be pushed.Space The Grandis offers seven seats with decent space with rear and middle seats easily shifting to provide loads of space in the back.Equipment Climate and cruise control, alloys and CD player as standard. Leather on higher specs.Price The Grandis is well-priced and will sell on well, though running costs on the petrol engine will be expensive.Quality The Grandis looks cheap but durable inside. Mitsubishi (and VW) engines and mechanicals are usually reliable.Safety Eight bags, ABS with EBD are standard. Stability and traction control on higher Grandis specs.Pros Spacious and versatile, good performance.Cons High running costs on petrols, poor to drive, interior looks weak.Alternatives Ford S-MAX, Vauxhall Zafira, Renault Scenic, Volkswagen Sharan
